South East Regional Development Day.

I started playing table tennis during my lunch break at school, and that was it I was hooked, I spoke to Mr Sadlowski about joining the Littlehampton ttc and he said come along on a Monday evening so I did and have never looked back.
I now try to play 4 times a week, Monday evening, Wednesday and Friday  after school, and Saturday mornings. I have been playing for around six months now and during the school summer holidays My coach  asked me if I would like to attend the South-east region trials which were being held in Horsham, I was extremely nervous as there were going to be players from Surrey, Sussex and Kent attending and we were going to be coached by one of the England team coaches.
The day went really well and I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt that I had played well, so now the wait began to see if I had made the regional squad.
On Thursday of last week my dad received an email saying that I had been successful at the trails and have been asked to join the South east regional development squad, we will meet up 9 times this year in various locations around Surrey, Sussex and Kent. At the end of the 9 sessions I hope to make the final team to represent the south east region in a national competition.
My first session is this Saturday and will take place in Cranbrook which is in Kent.

Littlehampton Academy TTC V Horsham Spinners TTC.

Spinners Clinch A Team Match, But South West Sussex Prove Too Strong In Battle Of Bs:

Horsham Spinners TTC played their second friendly match of the season, this time an away match vs a combined team from South West Sussex. The bulk of the home players (nine players) came from the new Littlehampton Academy TTC. In addition, there were three Bognor Regis players and two North Mundham players. Several of these players practice at two or three of these clubs. Spinners provided ten players (two teams of five) to challenge the two teams of seven from SWS. The match was played at the fantastic new venue in Littlehampton Academy. The club has recently acquired some top quality equipment via a grant application, including tables, nets, umpire tables, scoring machines, barriers, etc. The club is run by Mateus Sadlowski, with assistance from Chris Newberry. Photos of the match will hopefully follow.

Cameron Conquers:

Cameron Elder (Littlehampton) overcame the challenge from Spinners no. 1 player (on the day), Ben Lane, to win 11-5 in the deciding game. Impressively, Elder defeated the remaining Spinners players 3-0. Lane went on to beat the rest of the SWS players, but dropped three games in the process. Joe Worskett showed up next best of the Spinners players with four wins out of seven, including an epic 16-14 in the fifth win vs long pimple exponent, James Boltwood (Littlehampton). Boltwood’s awkward style earned him three wins, with another nail-biter vs 11-year-old William Michell, which he won in five including an 18-16 score-line in game 1. Three further Littlehampton players (Jack Kates, Ashley Macey and Jake Melvin) notched up triple victories, as did Michell and 10-year-old Horsham Spinner, Anish Padalkar. Former Sussex County player Macey was particularly fortunate in two of her wins, as she just edged over the line vs both Padalkar (12-14, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 14-12) and Michell (8-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 11-9). Padalkar showed his fighting spirit vs Wiktoria Brewka (Bognor Regis), as he recovered from being down two games to one and 2-8 down in the fourth to win 11-7 in the decider. He also won in five vs Ciaran McCaughan (Littlehampton). Horsham Spinner, Nathan Wadey had a slow start, but excelled to pick up two wins near the end vs Brewka and McCaughan. SWS led for most of the match, but it was Horsham Spinners, who grasped victory at the end by 18-17 in what was one of the most competitive friendly matches to date.

Intell-Smith And Slater Undefeated:

Two Littlehampton players shone in the B team match, winning all five of their matches. Both Jake Intell-Smith and Oliver Slater only conceded one end each in their conquests of Horsham Spinners B. 8-year-old North Mundham player, Ollie Jackson fared next best of the SWS players with four wins, only losing to Matteo Galeazzi-Everett. He had a superb encounter with 7-year-old Harry Filson, which went all the way, replete with counter-topspin rallies from these two very talented prospects. Jackson eventually triumphed, with the coaches on the edge of their seats 9-11, 15-13, 11-7, 10-12, 10-12. Brandon Terry (LH) won three matches for SWS, including a win over Galeazzi-Everett. Joe Jackson (NM) and Frankie Wormald (LH) won two matches each and Luke Darwen, who is eight, won one match and lost 7-11 in the fifth to Jan Williams-Bailey. For Spinners Harry Filson, Josh Denton and Galeazzi-Everett all won 4 matches each. Other five-setters included Filson over Terry and Galeazzi-Everett over Joe Jackson.
